Hi Chris,

My name is Jeanie Aguilo and I am a senior at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona working towards my bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning. I am currently working on my Senior Project, along with my group member Jerome Joaquin, with our topic on Small-Scale Urban Agriculture with a focus on Edible Gardens. Our interest in sustainability as well as thinking outside the box led us to researching community gardens. We stumbled upon your work in Pasadena from reading last August's Planning article titled, "Lawn Be Gone."

We are very interested in incorporating you as one of our prime examples of small-scale urban agriculture in our Senior Project as well as using your own edible garden as a key case study in our research. It would be a great honor to work with you and to exchange ideas and thoughts in regards to edible gardens in general.

If you are interested in helping us with our project, please email me at jiaguilo@gmail.com and we can continue to further our communication from there. Thank you so much.

Ehhh...dont you get people or animals coming to ruin or steal the veges that you grow on the front? They are so exposed. My frontyard is very exposed too and I worry about this problem.

the main issue was that I was modeling the no-knead bread from nytimes.com article by bittman. they used a covered container. I have now learned to do better than that, however, the amount of heat that my little toaster oven can put out is barely adequate, so by heating the container first, it helps store a good bit of heat.

no coating is needed. this forms a nice crust that does not stick.

Hi Chris,

Just curious to know why you didn't bake the bread on your toaster tray? I'm thinking I'd like to try the Artisan bread in the toaster oven instead of a regular oven cuz it's really really hot out now. As well, did you coat your dish with anything before putting in the dough?

Thanks in advance!

Zane - diatomaceous earth has seemed to work for me in the past. I believe that sinking cups of beer in the ground has also worked well, even better than for slugs.

aaron - right, the bags are nice, but do not involve building anything!

What do you use to deal with pill bugs and other arthropod plagues? We've been spraying with Bt, but it just doesn't seem to *do* anything to the aphids or their kin. There's ladybugs, but they're expensive and, well, flighty.
